Step 1 — trim first (free)

Why resolution is the big lever
4K footage carries nine times the pixels of 720p; nobody watching in a chat bubble can use them. Capping resolution does more than any quality slider, which is why it's step one of the preset. The quality preset then trims the remaining fat — Economy is tuned to look fine on phone screens, Balanced when the video will be watched larger. Silent screen recordings save a little more with the audio-remove option, and if only the soundtrack matters, extract it as MP3 instead — a 100 MB video becomes a 2 MB audio file.
