The modern GIF is not a GIF
Animated WebP does everything GIF does at a fraction of the size — full 24-bit colour, alpha transparency, and 3–5× smaller files for the same clip. For websites, documentation and README files it is simply the better embed; a page that loads a 1.5 MB WebP instead of a 7 MB GIF feels the difference.
Everything runs on FFmpeg in your browser, GIF input included — so this tool doubles as a GIF-to-WebP compressor. When universal compatibility matters more than size (email, office documents), go the other way with WebP to GIF.
