When a page is shared on Facebook, LinkedIn, Slack, WhatsApp, iMessage or X, the preview image comes from the og:image tag. 1200×630 pixels (1.91:1) renders correctly on all of them, with a safe centre for text since some crop toward square on mobile. Keep the file under 1 MB — Facebook’s cache is slow with bigger images and some platforms skip them.

What size should an Open Graph image be?

1200×630 pixels, ratio 1.91:1, under 1 MB, JPG or PNG. It works on Facebook, LinkedIn, Slack, Discord, WhatsApp and iMessage; X also accepts it for summary_large_image cards.

Why is my link preview not updating?

Platforms cache the first image they fetch. Use the Facebook Sharing Debugger or LinkedIn Post Inspector to re-scrape after changing the image, and make sure the URL is absolute and publicly accessible.

Should text be centred?

Yes — some clients crop toward a square or 1.5:1 on mobile. Keep titles and logos inside the central 1000×500 area.

What size is a Standard phone / story in 2026?
