When you need this

The client has a logo — as a 400-pixel PNG from an old website, and the print shop wants vectors. A signature needs to go on documents at any size. An icon exists only as a screenshot. Tracing rebuilds these as true SVG paths: each colour region becomes an editable, scalable shape, not pixels.

The honest scope

Vectorisation shines on flat-colour artwork — logos, icons, line art, signatures, stamps, simple illustrations. It is the wrong tool for photographs, which it reduces to a posterised effect (occasionally exactly what you want, usually not). The cleaner and larger the source, the better the trace; JPEG compression halos around edges are the most common cause of rough results. After tracing, optimise the SVG and recolor it like any vector — all in your browser, with nothing uploaded.

Frequently asked questions

What converts well — and what does not?

Honest answer: logos, icons, signatures, stamps, line art and any flat-colour graphic vectorise beautifully. Photographs do not — tracing reduces them to posterised colour areas, which is an artistic effect, not a photo format. For photos keep a raster format (WebP/JPG).

Is this a real SVG or a bitmap wrapped in SVG?

Real vectors. The tracer finds the colour regions in your image and describes their outlines as SVG paths — the result scales to any size, edits in Illustrator/Figma per shape, and recolours like any vector. Some tools just embed the PNG inside an SVG tag; this does not.

Why does my logo come out with slightly rough edges?

The tracer can only see the pixels it is given. A small or heavily compressed source (JPEG artefacts around edges) traces roughly. Use the largest, cleanest version you have — a 500 px+ PNG with sharp edges traces near-perfectly.
