Frequently asked questions

What even is a JFIF file?

A JPEG with a different name — JFIF is the interchange format JPEG images are stored in, and some Windows/browser combinations save downloads with the .jfif extension. Many apps refuse the extension despite understanding the format perfectly.

Does converting JFIF to PNG lose quality?

No — PNG is lossless, so the pixels are stored exactly. The file may get larger (PNG compresses photos less efficiently than JPEG); if you just need a friendlier extension at the same size, convert to JPG instead — same tool, one click.
