WebP images saved from the web are the classic “my software won’t open it” problem: older Photoshop versions, many print workflows and some office suites still reject them. Converting to PNG is lossless — the decoded pixels are written out exactly — so nothing is lost except the small size advantage. This page opens the Image Converter pre-set to PNG.

The PNG is optimised with OxiPNG as it is written, so it is as small as a lossless copy can be. Animated WebP files convert to a still of the first frame.

Frequently asked questions

Is WebP to PNG conversion lossless?

Yes. The WebP is decoded to pixels and those pixels are stored losslessly in the PNG. Any loss already baked into the WebP by whoever created it cannot be undone, but nothing new is lost.

Why is the PNG larger than the WebP?

Because PNG is lossless and WebP is usually lossy — you are trading size for compatibility. If you only need to view the image, most modern software opens WebP directly; convert when a specific program or upload form refuses it.

Can I convert WebP to JPG instead?

Yes — change the output format in the toolbar. JPG is smaller but has no transparency; transparent areas are flattened onto white or the colour you choose.
