YouTube asks for thumbnails at 1280×720 pixels (16:9), at least 640 px wide, under 2 MB, as JPG, PNG, GIF or WebP. The channel banner is 2560×1440 but only the central 1546×423 “safe area” is visible on every device, so keep names and logos there. Drop a design export or a video frame, check the live preview, and download a file that meets every requirement.
Every YouTube size on this page, verified for 2026: Video thumbnail 1280×720 px (16:9 · under 2 MB), Channel banner 2560×1440 px (safe area 1546×423 · under 6 MB), Shorts 1080×1920 px (9:16), End screen 1920×1080 px (16:9), Community post 1080×1080 px (1:1), Channel profile photo 800×800 px (1:1 · under 4 MB). Each card is a live preview of your image in that frame — drag to reposition, slide between Fit (whole image, background added) and Fill (frame covered, edges cropped), then download the one you need or every size as a ZIP. Nothing is uploaded; the rendering runs in your browser.
Text-heavy thumbnails look best as PNG or as JPG at quality 90 so the lettering stays crisp; photographic thumbnails are fine at 80–85. A 1280×720 JPG at quality 90 is typically 150–400 KB — comfortably under the 2 MB limit.
