How to use the PNG to JPG

JPG is the format every upload form accepts, and for photographic PNGs it is dramatically smaller. The catch is transparency: JPG has none, so transparent pixels must be filled. This page opens the Image Converter pre-set to JPG with white as the fill; change it under Transparency to match where the image will be placed.

Screenshots and graphics with sharp text should use quality 85–90 — JPEG artefacts show first around hard edges. Photographs are fine at 80. If the destination accepts it, PNG to WebP gives smaller files and keeps transparency.

Frequently asked questions

What happens to transparent areas?

They are filled with white by default. Choose Black or a custom colour if the JPG will sit on a coloured background — anti-aliased edges are blended against the fill colour, so matching it avoids a faint halo.

Which quality for screenshots?

85–90. Text and UI edges are where JPEG compression becomes visible first. For photos, 80 is plenty.

Why not keep PNG?

Keep PNG for anything you will edit again or that needs transparency or pixel-exact text. Convert to JPG when a platform requires it or when a photographic PNG is simply too large to serve.
